BILLINGS & RANKINGS
-The networks & the owner groups are ranked according to their situation in May 2002 on the basis of their billings in 2001.
-The RECMA estimates show an increase of 9%, but this is partly a result of the unbundling of Omnicom media departments into OMD in the US. Another reason is the growth of PHD absorbing a new US agency owned by Omnicom.
-RECMA consolidates the billings of (Starcom + MediaVest and (Zenith +Optimedia) because both networks have a global management combining the resources of the two brands. The merger of FCB into Initiative Media and of CIA into MediaEdge reduces the number of competitors to ten (80% of PhD's billings comes from the US).
-The consolidated billings of the networks'owners clearly show the new Publicis Groupe (including Bcom3) heading the league tables.
- The growth of Carat and MediaCom in the US could suggest than these networks have reached a competitive buying size and do not need to depend on mergers for further growth.
